19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Success also signifies he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to win a title is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six finals, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive play style and regular outbursts on court had led observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

He saved 4 initial break points in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
